Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be the caused from a bump, blow or jolt to the head or penetrating trauma which disrupts the normal functioning of the brain and mentation. The initial treatment is focused identifying whether the patient is bleeding and the mechanism of injury Coup or Contrecoup.
Once identified the nursing interventions are centered around preventing further increased intracranial pressure. IF unresolved TBI can cause severe brain damage up to leading to herniation of the brainstem.
